About the Tsuneko and Reiji Okazaki Award

Prof. Tsuneko Okazaki and the late Prof. Reiji Okazaki discovered Okazaki fragments when they were faculty members here in Nagoya University, Japan. They dedicated themselves to advancement of molecular biology and nurturing excellent molecular biologists. In honor of the spirit and legacy of Professors Okazaki, we have launched the Tsuneko & Reiji Okazaki Award. The award is offered each year to an early career scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of biology through innovative and original approaches or transformative technologies. The award recognizes a young scientist’s extraordinary efforts and accomplishments and encourages his or her future success.

The Tsuneko & Reiji Okazaki Award is administered by ITbM. ITbM was established at Nagoya University in April 2013 as an international institute to create a new interdisciplinary field of research through the collaboration of cutting-edge synthetic chemistry and animal/plant biology and to develop innovative functional bio-molecules that make a marked change in the form and nature of biological science and technology. Professors of ITbM and the Graduate School of Science in Nagoya University are now serving as selection/organization committee of this award.
