Academic Agreement with the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO)
Nagoya University concluded academic agreement with the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) to accelerate joint research in order to solve the food problem in Africa.
ITbM succeeded in developing the molecule "Sphynolactone-7: SPL7" that is expected to eradicate the parasitic plant "Striga" causing serious damage to crop production and lead to the solution of food problems in Africa. Currently, ITbM is proceeding with research to verify the effectiveness of this molecule in African field.
Prior to the signing ceremony, Dr. Eliud Kireger, Director General of KALRO visited ITbM, discussed future joint research with Prof. Kenichiro Itami (Director of ITbM), and confirmed to work together.
The conclusion of the agreement and Dr. Kireger's visit to ITbM will strengthen the relationship between KALRO and Nagoya University, which will activate joint research between the two organizations.
This agreement was jointly applied by Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Graduate School of Science, International Center for Research and Education in Agriculture, Bioscience and Biotechnology Center, Applied Social System Institute of Asia, and ITbM, which was finally signed between Nagoya University and KALRO.
The research of SPL7 will be presented at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7).
