Yoshimulactone, a compound to visualize parasitic plant Striga germination, is commercially available
Yoshimulactone, a compound developed by ITbM's research group to visualize parasitic plant Striga, is commercially available from Tokyo Chemical Industry (TCI).
Striga is a parasitic plant that causes huge damage to agriculture in regions such as Africa. This parasite germinates upon detection of a compound called strigolactone, which is released from the host plant. Gaining a hint from the structure of strigolactone, ITbM's researchers have developed Yoshimulactone green (YLG), which fluoresces upon reacting with the protein receptor on Striga. The name of Yoshimulactone derives from the graduate student "Yoshimura", who synthesized the molecule, in combination with "lactone" derived from strigolactone.
